What we do

EI Life Skill Training Team have got great opportunity to develop travel tourism and hospitality industry, under the financial support of Skills for Inclusive Growth Program from 2018, April to 2019 March

Under this program EI Life Skills Training Team focused on youths, women and disability persons in Trincomalee, Baticaloa, Ampara and Polonnaruwa districts. Also EI life skills team conducted huge campaign and build positive image of travel tourism and hospitality industry .It motivated the whole community to develop skills

This effective positive behavior change campaign got huge results. Unfortunately the recent Easter Sunday Terrorist Attack pulled back our success. But EI Life skills team is not ready to give up. EI Life skills team have enough confidence to increase the community energy towards better travel, tourism and hospitality services. Activities EI team did last year


EI team received greatest financial support (295,787.50 AUD) and guidance from Skills for Inclusive Growth Program. Skills for Inclusive Growth Program is a Australian funded program partnership with Sri Lankan Government, to support sustainable job creation and business growth towards travel tourism and hospitality industry in four districts (Ampara, Baticaloa, Trincomalee and Polonnaruwa) of Sri Lanka


Media Awareness workshop for Journalists and media related personalities
EI team conducted 4 training programs for journalists and media related personalities, with the support of renowned Prof. M.S.M.Aslam, (is a professor in Tourism Management attached to the department of Tourism Management at the ‘Sabaragamuwa University’ of Sri Lanka) trained 208 journalists to improve their awareness towards travel tourism and hospitality industry. Enthusiastic participants have already published 60 national newspaper articles and 32 web articles about travel, tourism and hospitality industry

Talk shops for Opinion Leaders
Talk shops for Opinion Leaders
Opinion leaders in a community is so powerful to change their society. Especially opinion leaders, religion leaders, community leaders, provincial level political leaders can influence the community. So that we empowered more than 800 community leaders, through 16 talk shops on travel, tourism and hospitality industry

Women’s, disabilities, youths and elders of more than 3900 community members took part in awareness meetings to be more informative about the opportunities in travel, tourism and hospitality industry
Awareness through Street Drama
Awareness through Street Drama
Street drama is one way to reach remote area. They were able to understand the subject of travel, tourism and hospitality industry through street drama very simply. We broke the myths. More than 40,000 community members participated through 300 street drama. They also expressed interest to join tourism industry through an application form

Awareness through Giant Screen Telecast
20 Ft LED Screened long truck travelled through the village. A host and motivational videos & messages from locals who are already in the field were also carried within the giant screen telecast. More than 70000 community members in 43 DS divisions participated to watch giant screen video telecast

‘Join with Tourism Industry’, A Facebook page was built to enhance social marketing campaign and to promote travel tourism and hospitality sector in the community. Within one year, more than 9500 active Facebook users joined the page. Using more than 350 posts, videos and success stories community was motivated to join tourism industry. Awareness through Television Adverts
30 seconds two adverts in Sinhala and Tamil was telecasted during prime time in famous national televisions in Sri Lanka. Where Chef Dr. Damodaran (Holder of Guinness Record and First Indian chef to receive PhD in Hotel Management and Catering Technology) and Dr.Publis Silva (Master Chef, Mount Lavinia Hotel, Sri Lanka) were given a motivational messages on television adverts

Awareness through Bus Branding, Hoardings and Sticker Pasting
12 public bus brandings and 8 large hoardings for public visibility. We also pasted over 5000 small and large stickers on public places such as busses, library, government and officers and many more. We make sure that everyone in the community receives the information about immerging tourism industry
Awareness through a Theme Song
Awareness through a Theme Song
Music is a powerful medium that can influence the behaviour of people. A song was developed and creative directed by EI Life Skills Training Team, to show various job opportunities, cultures and lifestyle of Sri Lanka which was visualized through this industry.
The theme song was written by award winning artist, Nilar N Cassim while the music composition was done by Visharada Bhayawath Niyanadan. The song was sung by popular Sri Lankan singers, Lahiru perera, Nirosha Virajini, Mahendra Kumar and Mekala Gamage (a famous visually impaired singer). All Sri Lankan ethnic groups were represented in the theme song while the main character was portrayed by a volunteer, Popham Jessika Rose. The song mainly featured the skills in the travel, tourism and hospitality industry value chain

During the implementation of these activities in 4 districts within 1 year, we received 5641 applicants who were nominated to get trained in travel, tourism and hospitality industry. Also we received more than 500 calls to our hotline, enquiring, expecting more information and seeking help about tourism industry
